Assistant Director of Teaching and Learning

Position SummaryThe Assistant Director of Teaching and Learning will assist the Executive Director in coordinating all aspects of the district's instructional program. The successful candidate will be a visionary leader able to enhance student achievement through innovative instructional practices and robust professional development for all teaching staff.
Key Responsibilities- Innovation & Emerging Technologies: Assist in guiding the development and implementation of policies and practices that ensure the responsible, safe, and effective integration of AI and other digital tools in K–12 education.
- Career & Technical Education (CTE): Provide administrative oversight for CTE programs, ensuring alignment with state standards and workforce trends. Foster partnerships with local industries and post-secondary institutions.
- MICIP & School Improvement: Facilitate the Michigan Integrated Continuous Improvement Process (MICIP) at the district level. Work with building principals to analyze data and implement evidence-based strategies.
- Professional Development: Design, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive professional learning plan for teaching staff, focusing on technology integration and high-leverage instructional strategies.
- Master's Degree or higher in education, instructional technology, or educational leadership
- Valid K-12 Administrative certification
- Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience required
- Previous administrative or instructional leadership experience preferred
- Skilled collaborator, communicator, and relationship-builder
- Ability to analyze data and use data to drive decision-making
- Self-motivated team player who is able to multitask and prioritize
- Ability to navigate and utilize Google Suite, and willingness to learn how to navigate and utilize other technology platforms
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and manage complex projects
- Evidence of strong conceptual, analytical, organizational, and management skills
- Ability to facilitate change management within individuals, teams, and organizations, including implementing professional learning for adult learners and staff development
- Knowledge of PK-12 curriculum, standards, instruction, interventions, and assessment
- Broad understanding of public school laws and policies as they relate to the delivery of instructional services
- Provide leadership and direct support for district school improvement process.
- Supervise and evaluate building administrators.
- Develop meeting cadences and agendas for the District MICIP Team.
- Design, facilitate, and deliver professional development for leaders and teachers
- Serve as a co-leader of the District AI Steering Committee.
- Support the effective use of technology to enhance, not replace, learning.
- Support the development of CTE programming across the grades, from targeted experiences at elementary to internship opportunities at the high school.
- Work collaboratively with district/school level administrators, school-based leadership teams, and teachers.
- Experience working with, and developing programs for, diverse groups of students
- Maintain current knowledge of evolving research, relevant trends, and best practices
- Follow all Board policies, state laws, and regulations.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with families, staff, and community members.
- Develop bi-annual reports for the Curriculum & Learning Department for presentation to the School Board.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

- Effectively communicate with stakeholders on a regular basis via phone or email.
- Participate in staff meetings, parent meetings, and other meetings as required and directed.
