High School Visual Arts Teacher

Location: Elk Rapids, Michigan

Elk Rapids High School seeks a motivated, passionate, engaged, and dedicated Visual Arts instructor to lead a visual arts classroom for the 2026‑2027 school year. The teacher will create a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment, foster educational excellence, and collaborate with students, colleagues, parents, and community members.

• Plan and prepare learning activities and guide students toward achievement of curriculum and district objectives.
• Teach knowledge and skills in art, including drawing, painting, lettering, and art history.
• Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law, administrative regulations, and procedures of the school.
• Provide instruction that helps students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciate qualitative judgments about art.
• Demonstrate techniques in activities such as drawing and painting.
• Use acrylic paints with techniques such as dry brushing, staining, layering, under painting, and monoprinting.
• Apply a variety of masters techniques, elements of design, modern principles of art, and fundamentals of drawing media.
• Instruct students in proper care and use of tools and equipment.
• Organize storage areas and control use of materials, equipment, and tools to prevent loss or abuse and minimize distribution and collection time.
• Evaluate each student’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and prepare progress reports.
• Select and requisition books, instructional materials, tools, instructional aids, and maintain required inventory records.
• Plan and present art displays and exhibitions that showcase student work for the school and the community.
• May sponsor exhibits from outside the school.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships, both internal and external to the school district.
• Maintain professional competence through in‑service education activities and/or self‑selected professional growth activities.
• Communicate with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
• Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs, such as an after‑school art club.
• Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the administration.

• Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with Visual Arts Education (LQ) endorsement K–12.
• Completion of an approved teacher preparation program.
• Bachelor’s Degree (minimum).
• Ability to secure teacher certification.
• Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver engaging standards‑based instruction.

Salary is based on experience and qualifications within the EREA Contract.
