Embedded Writing Coach
We are now hiring for Fall 2026! West Shore Community College supports students in their educational journeys through peer and professional embedded academic coaching. As an embedded writing coach, you will actively participate in designated course sessions, establishing meaningful connections with students and providing invaluable feedback and guidance during class meetings. Through personalized coaching sessions, you will help students nurture their writing skills and understanding of the writing process, as well as foster a sense of belonging and connection to the campus community and resources while promoting independent learning and self-reliance.

As a writing coach, you will empower students to become confident writers, model effective student habits and active classroom participation, and connect them with additional campus resources for further support.
This position begins on August 17, 2026, with the start of Fall classes on August 24, 2026.
Job DutiesIn addition to providing targeted outreach during class meetings and providing feedback on student writing, the embedded writing coach will assist students with reaching their academic goals by performing the following tasks:
- Hold writing conferences outside of class meeting times and accurately document those sessions
- Create a coaching schedule convenient to both the faculty and students
- Collaborate with faculty members through discussions focused on student progress and needs
- Provide outreach to students with missing assignments, absences, or persistent difficulties, and offer assistance or provide access to additional resources
- Assist students in learning how to effectively use technology such as MS Word or other word processors, Canvas, and library databases
- Research and develop useful class materials
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
- Experience working in an educational setting
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills
- Ability to work in a participatory manner with all segments of the college community
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in Composition, English, Communications, or a related field
- Experience working in an educational setting with diverse learners
- Expertise in providing constructive feedback tailored to the individual
- Experience in a Writing Center

This position requires 10-28 hours/per week during the Fall and Winter semesters. Schedules are flexible and involve a collaboration between the coach's availability and the need of the faculty and students.
