Paraprofessional Level 2 - Student Academic Center
This position plays a vital role in supporting student success at Caledonia High School. The primary responsibility is to provide a structured, supportive environment for students serving in-school suspension, lunch detention, or completing assessments in the testing room. The employee will help students remain engaged in their academic work, develop positive behavior skills, and experience success in school. This role requires a high level of independence, professionalism, and a strong commitment to building positive student relationships.
This position reports to the High School Principal/Designee and is for 183 days per year, with 32.5 hours weekly. Benefits include single subscriber medical insurance, holidays, sick days, and State of Michigan retirement eligibility.
Position responsibilities include:
- Providing consistent supervision for students who are test-taking or assigned to in-school suspension or lunch detention, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
- Taking accurate daily attendance for students in testing, in-school suspension, and lunch detention.
- Greeting students with positivity and professionalism to help establish a welcoming and respectful space.
- Supporting students during reflection periods by discussing behavior, decision-making, and strategies to prevent future issues; collaborating with staff as needed.
- Monitoring all in-school suspension assignments and offering students encouragement, feedback, and appropriate academic support, including supervising computer work and test-taking.
- Supervising testing sessions and providing assistance, such as reading tests aloud when required.
- Communicating with teachers to request student work in advance and maintaining Work Completion Logs for all students assigned to the room.
- Providing clerical support to the main office when needed.
- Performing additional duties as assigned by the principal or assistant principal to support overall school operations and student success.
Employment qualifications include:
- Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired through the completion of a high school diploma or Associate's degree.
- A minimum of one to three years of progressively more responsible or expansive experience in a public education setting is preferred.
- No supervisory responsibilities.
- No certificates, licenses, or registrations required.
Other knowledge, skills, and attributes include:
- Highly flexible with good attendance.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to work as part of the team.
- Excellent computer skill.
- Must maintain confidentiality.
- Remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout employment in the District.
- Knowledge of school software systems.
- Experience working in a school district.
Physical demands include sitting, using hands to finger, handle, or feel; talking and hearing. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen and small numbers.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
