Position Summary

The Behavior Specialist/ Middle School Athletic Director serves as a member of the building leadership team responsible for fostering a safe, positive, and supportive learning environment for all students. This position provides leadership in student behavior, school culture, attendance, PBIS/MTSS implementation, student support services, and middle school athletics. The successful candidate will build strong relationships with students, staff, and families while promoting student growth, accountability, and success both in and out of the classroom.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Student Behavior and Support
  • Implement Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) throughout all school environments.
  • Enforce the Student Handbook and district policies to maintain a safe and orderly school climate.
  • Conduct meetings with students, parents, and staff to address behavioral, attendance, and academic concerns.
  • Provide interventions and support for students experiencing behavioral, social, emotional, or attendance challenges.
  • Develop, monitor, and support implementation of targeted intervention and behavior plans.
  • Lead restorative conversations, conflict resolution meetings, and student re-entry conferences.
  • Monitor student accommodations and support plans in collaboration with teachers and support staff.
  • Maintain accurate student behavior documentation and records in Power School.
  • Analyze student behavior data and implement proactive strategies to improve student outcomes.
  • Support the social-emotional development and well-being of students.
School Culture, PBIS, and MTSS
  • Provide leadership and support for the school's PBIS and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) frameworks.
  • Support staff in creating positive classroom environments and implementing effective behavior management strategies.
  • Coordinate and support student recognition programs that celebrate academic achievement, attendance, and positive behavior.
  • Facilitate bi-weekly Student Support Team meetings.
  • Serve as an active member of the Building School Improvement Team.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and monitoring of school improvement initiatives.
School Operations and Supervision
  • Coordinate and supervise student transitions throughout the school day, including arrival, dismissal, passing time, lunch, recess, and school events.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, orderly, and welcoming school environment.
  • Supervise instructional and non-instructional paraprofessionals.
  • Organize and facilitate meetings, trainings, and professional learning opportunities related to student support systems.
  • Coordinate school-wide assemblies and special events.
  • Serve as the building Testing Coordinator and oversee state and local assessment administration.
Student Services and Administrative Support
  • Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and provide administrative input regarding student support needs.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of Section 504 Plans.
  • Collaborate with counselors, special education staff, teachers, and families to support student success.
  • Support attendance improvement efforts and intervention processes.
  • Assist the Principal with building operations and other duties as assigned.
Athletic Director Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and oversee all middle school athletic programs and activities.
  • Collaborate with the high school athletic director to align athletic programs, communication, scheduling, and student-athlete development across the district.
  • Schedule contests, officials, transportation, facilities, and event supervision.
  • Serve as the direct supervisor for all middle school athletic coaches.
  • Support the hiring, onboarding, evaluation, and professional growth of coaching staff.
  • Promote sportsmanship, character development, and positive student-athlete experiences.
  • Ensure compliance with district policies, league requirements, and athletic regulations.
