Job Description
Position: Level 1 SPED Paraprofessional – Resource Room
Location: Emmons Lake Elementary, Caledonia, Michigan
Reports To: Building Principal
Compensation: $15.78 per hour (or more depending on experience), 27.5 hours per week / 183 days per year
Start Date: 26-27 School Year

Primary Responsibilities- Works with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced and outlined by certified staff
- Assists certified staff in devising special strategies for reinforcing learning based on individual students' needs, interests, and abilities
- Monitors and supervises curriculum‑based testing and makeup work as assigned
- Performs clerical, classroom maintenance, and instructional duties as assigned
- Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information in the school environment
- Plans instructional techniques and prepares lesson materials based on student assessments
- Administers assessment tests and interprets results to identify student needs
- Records and reports assessment data to teachers and administrators; completes required forms and paperwork
- Instructs and reinforces math and reading strategies
- Tutors students in one‑on‑one or small group settings in all curriculum areas
- Meets with teachers to discuss goals and progress, and additional interventions
- Attends professional development, training programs, and conferences to stay current in the field
- Provides personal/hygiene care for students as needed
- Performs recess duties
- Other duties as assigned by the principal
- Education:
High school diploma required; an associate's degree desired but not required - Experience:
Experience working with elementary students in a classroom setting is desirable
- Knowledge of, and ability to assist in, instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
- Ability to write simple correspondence and routine reports
- Effective communication with students, administrators, and staff
- Application of common sense and problem‑solving in standardized situations
- Dealing with problems involving several concrete variables
Regularly required to sit, use hands to handle or feel, talk, and hear. Occasionally required to stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must occasionally lift or move up to 30 pounds. Requires close vision and ability to adjust focus while reading and using a computer. Reasonable accommodations can be made for disabilities.
