General Description

The Respiratory Therapy Faculty Member is responsible for providing high‑quality instruction and academic leadership within the Respiratory Therapy program. The role supports student learning, recruitment, retention, and success through innovative teaching, curriculum development, assessment of learning outcomes, and clinical education. Faculty teach across didactic, laboratory, simulation, and clinical settings, contributing to program excellence, accreditation compliance, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential with a current Michigan license (or eligibility to obtain within four months). Bachelor’s degree in a related field;
    Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of recent clinical experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
  • Two years of relevant teaching experience, preferably in post‑secondary instruction.
  • Experience with instructional technology, learning management systems, simulation‑based education, and/or online or hybrid course delivery.
  • Knowledge of accreditation standards relevant to Respiratory Therapy education.
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication and presentation skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to teach both basic and advanced coursework in Respiratory Care, including didactic, lab, simulation, and clinical instruction.
  • A passion for continuous learning and a dedication to supporting student success through the mission of the College. Contribution to a collaborative work environment through collegial communication and shared governance.
  • Ability to facilitate varied teaching methods, including evidence‑based, student‑centered strategies, and to assess student performance using fair, timely, and meaningful assessment methods.
  • Participation in curriculum development or assistance in curriculum evaluation and revision to include content expertise, instruction delivery, and design.
  • Willingness and ability to teach during day or evening, as well as online courses and at main campus and extension sites.
  • Highly motivated, solution‑oriented, with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the College.
  • Ability to commute to all clinical sites (all in Michigan).
  • Essential Functions
  • Provide leadership for the clinical and lab components of the program, including clinical lab instruction.
  • Organize, administer, plan, develop, and continuously improve the effectiveness of clinical experiences for students.
  • Maintain and develop clinical site relationships to support direct care and observational learning experiences.
  • Collaborate with clinical facilities to develop specific orientation for clinical experience and verify student health form compliance.
  • Conduct site visits to clinical locations appropriate to the course objectives.
  • Support the Program Director in curriculum development, accreditation efforts, and hiring of adjunct faculty, especially adjunct preceptors.
  • Teach assigned course load, which may include day, night, and online courses across campus and extension sites.
  • Provide educational assistance to students during office hours or by appointment.
  • Participate in professional development and maintain current knowledge in the discipline.
  • Prepare, submit, and maintain reports related to student learning and accreditation needs.
  • Assist in curriculum development or revision to keep programs on the cutting edge.
  • Meet curriculum outcomes; grade assignments in a meaningful way, return graded assignments promptly, and assign final grades within institutional deadlines.
  • Develop student rapport and professional relationships to assist with student success.
  • Drop students for non‑attendance by established deadlines.
  • Ensure student opinion surveys are conducted for each class and reviewed after summary information is available to support student success and instructor growth.
