The Secondary Science Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality science instruction to students in grades 6‑12 while fostering a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment. The teacher will develop and implement standards‑based lessons aligned with the Michigan Academic Standards, promote critical thinking and scientific inquiry, and support student growth academically, socially, and emotionally. The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues, parents, and administrators to ensure students’ success and contribute positively to the school community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Instruction and Curriculum- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging science lessons aligned with Michigan Academic Standards and district curriculum.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, technology tools, and hands‑on learning experiences to meet diverse student needs.
- Develop and implement assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Differentiate instruction to accommodate varying learning styles, abilities, and educational needs.
- Promote inquiry‑based learning, problem‑solving, critical thinking, and scientific literacy.
- Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date lesson plans and instructional records.
- Establish and maintain a positive, respectful, and productive classroom environment.
- Implement effective classroom management practices that encourage student engagement and responsibility.
- Enforce district policies, student handbook expectations, and safety procedures.
- Supervise students in classrooms, laboratories, field experiences, and other assigned settings.
- Assess student learning through formative and summative assessments.
- Maintain accurate student attendance, grades, and academic records.
- Provide timely feedback to students and parents regarding academic progress.
- Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and staff regarding student achievement and concerns.
- Participate in parent‑teacher conferences and student support meetings as required.
- Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to improve student achievement.
- Participate in professional development activities and maintain required certifications.
- Attend faculty meetings, professional learning communities, and district training sessions.
- Support school improvement initiatives and district goals.
- Serve on committees and participate in extracurricular activities as assigned.
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with appropriate science endorsement(s) for assigned grade levels and content areas.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education, science, or a related field.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Michigan Academic Standards and instructional best practices.
- Ability to effectively integrate technology into instruction.
- Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to establish positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
