The Assistant Camp Director supports the Camp Director with daily camp operations, planning, and execution, and serves as Acting Camp Director when the Director is unavailable. This role assists with coordinating camp schedules, activities, special events, and logistics while ensuring camper safety, well-being, positive behavior management, and adherence to camp policies, procedures, safety protocols, and risk management standards. The Assistant Director supervises, mentors, and supports camp counselors, head counselors, activity staff, and 2–5 part‑time student aide staff, assists with staff orientation and training, provides ongoing feedback, and resolves staff, camper, and parent concerns in a professional and calm manner while communicating effectively with all levels of camp staff.
The position serves as a key point of contact for parents and guardians via phone and in person, attends and actively participates in all camp open houses, supports parent engagement efforts, and addresses camper behavior concerns involving students and parents. Administrative responsibilities include assisting with camp registration, sales, data entry, and record accuracy; supervising the front office during camp; managing daily phone calls and inquiries;
assisting with scheduling campers, staff assignments, classrooms and facilities, and sports activities; maintaining and updating the camp website; and utilizing Excel, Access, and Outlook to manage schedules, data, and communications. The Assistant Camp Director also supports year‑round programming by assisting with the planning, promotion, registration, and operation of Athletic Department sports clinics, participating in training and coordination meetings with key camp and department personnel, and performing additional related duties as assigned.
Candidates should have previous experience in a camp leadership or assistant director role, with demonstrated experience in staff training, scheduling, and program coordination. A background in education, recreation, child development, or a related field is preferred, along with experience in parent engagement and customer‑facing roles. Familiarity with safety protocols, emergency procedures, and conducting drills is also required to ensure a safe and well‑managed camp environment.
