English Language Arts Teacher
Elk Rapids Schools – Elk Rapids, Michigan is seeking an English Language Arts Teacher for the 2026‑2027 school year.
The role is located at Cherryland Middle School, a middle school within Elk Rapids Schools that serves grades 6‑8. The teacher will report to the School Building Principal and will have an immediate start date.
Responsibilities- Establish a classroom structure that values positive relationships and implements the district curriculum.
- Create and maintain a classroom culture that supports students’ non‑academic needs and removes barriers to academic success.
- Establish clear objectives for all learning activities.
- Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
- Instruct and monitor students on the use of learning materials and equipment.
- Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
- Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students; provide appropriate feedback and adjust teaching strategies based on data.
- Maintain accurate records of students’ progress and development.
- Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents about progress and needs.
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with English (BA or BX) endorsement for grades 6‑12 or K‑8.
- Completion of an approved teacher preparation program.
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Language Arts, Education, or a related field.
- Passing score on the MTTC English exam.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver engaging, standards‑based instruction.
- Strong desire and ability to build meaningful, caring relationships with students.
- Ability to motivate students and influence positive student behavior.
- Willingness and capacity to engage in instructional conversations focused on improving student learning.
- Commitment to coordinate instruction within and across grade levels.
- Competence to collect and analyze data to inform instructional decisions.
- Ability to thrive in a professional environment of mutual respect, teamwork, and accountability.
- Preferred: additional certifications, prior experience as an educator, experience working with middle school students.
- At least 1 year of relevant experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
