Contract Length: 181 Days during the Contracted School Year; 7 hours per day

Salary: $15.32 to $18.19 per hour

Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent with a minimum of two (2) years of successful experience as an aide in a day‑care training program or a special education classroom, or equivalent experience, and recommended by an administrator who has supervised the work for at least one year.

OR high school graduate or equivalent with advanced training in a community college or degree‑granting institution whose special education instructional aide training program has been approved by the Michigan Department of Education.

Experience or training specific to the job assignment or classroom (e.g., Sign Language for the Hearing Impaired; Braille for the Visually Impaired).

Valid driver’s license may be required for driving duties.

General Description

A paraprofessional assists the professional educator in the initiation, participation, and culmination of learning activities that occur in the teaching–learning experience. The primary function is to assist the student in the successful completion of their individualized educational plan.

Essential Functions

Perform all duties and tasks under the direct supervision of a certified instructor.
Assist in providing a positive and safe learning atmosphere for students.
Physically manage, lift, and interact with students of a wide range of physical sizes and abilities as needed.
Supplement instruction by assisting the teacher with individual or small groups of pupils.
Reinforce instruction with remedial or drill activities as directed.
Prepare classroom materials as directed.
Assist the teacher in preparing reports.
Maintain confidentiality concerning student information.
Maintain regular and reliable attendance.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

Serve as a positive role model for DIISD constituents, demonstrating responsibility and citizenship.
Adhere to DIISD Code of Ethics.
Carry out other associated duties as assigned by administration.

Additional Working Conditions

Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluid, and tissue.
Reimbursement may be required for use of a personal vehicle to perform job‑related functions.
