Position Title:

Full-Time Special Education Teacher - Reintegration Program (for students with disabilities that impact social, emotional and behavioral areas)

SUMMARY

The Reintegration Program Special Education Teacher will provide high-quality classroom instruction and support to students with disabilities whose needs can best be met in a structured ESD classroom program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plans curriculum and lessons, and utilizes effective and relevant teaching strategies, methods, and practices to enhance the student learning environment.
  • Evaluates and monitors students’ progress through a variety of tools in various settings.
  • Prepares and communicates student progress using report cards, educational records, IEP forms, classroom observation records, Functional Behavior Assessments, Behavior Intervention Plans, and other documents.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, and the community.
  • Utilize the standards of Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) in daily instruction and Ukeru as needed.
  • Creates and implements Behavior Intervention Plans and uses data to inform instruction.
  • Participates in the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) evaluation, the development and implementation of IEP meetings, and committee/staff meetings held in relation to program operation.
  • Maintains the physical environment of the classroom and effectively manages students’ health, personal care, and safety needs.
  • Leads and directs the work of classroom paraprofessionals and behavior assistants.
  • Works collaboratively with staff and agency personnel to maintain the standards of individual students behavior.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the use of technology and computer skills.
  • Communicates clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Presence on the job is an employee’s fundamental obligation; regular, reliable and punctual attendance is required.
  • Perform other duties deemed necessary and appropriate as assigned.
EDUCATION/SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
  • Valid Teaching certificate with special education endorsement, with preference given to EI endorsement or having training with emotional impairments and positive behavior intervention and supports.
  • Willing to accept applicants who currently possess an Associate’s Degree and are willing to obtain special education teaching credentials.
  • Meet applicable requirements found in MARSE R.
  • Valid diver’s license.

184-day school-year contract with competitive pay and benefits as outlined in the West Shore Education Association Agreement.
