Special Education Teacher - Columbus, GA

You'll Bring
  • Valid Special Education Teacher certification
  • Experience working in elementary school settings, particularly grades K‑2
  • Strong background in inclusion/co‑teaching models
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with staff and families
  • Positive, patient attitude and genuine enthusiasm for supporting students with diverse needs
Your Responsibilities
  • Planning and delivering engaging lessons tailored for both small group and co‑taught full‑class settings
  • Working collaboratively with general education teachers to ensure all students’ needs are met in the inclusion model
  • Managing a caseload of approximately 15 students and maintaining accurate, up‑to‑date IEP documentation
  • Monitoring student progress and adjusting instructional strategies to maximize development and growth
  • Participating in IEP meetings, staff collaboration, and ongoing professional development

Requirements
  • Educational Level: Bachelor Degree in job related field
  • Certification/License:
    Valid Georgia Teacher certification or eligibility for GA certification in Special Education Adapted Curriculum.
  • Experience:

    GAA Experience Preferred
  • Physical

    Activities:

    Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities;
    Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. individually or assist in lifting up to 50 lbs. or more, participate in diapering and feeding of children.
  • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
    Written and oral communication; instructional strategies that connect the curriculum to the learners; student management
Essential Duties
  • Adapts classroom work to provide students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans that reflect accommodations, modification and IEP driven attributes.
  • Demonstrates the ability to complete timely and accurate documents to include progress monitoring data, functional behavioral assessments, behavior intervention plans, and individualized education plans.
  • Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, IEP goal progress monitoring, etc).
  • Acts as Case Manager for an assigned group of students to track, schedule and ensure completion of relevant paperwork, supporting and meeting student needs and conducting IEP meetings for legal compliance and student growth.
  • Understands and implements IDEA driven compliance timelines.
  • Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the curriculum, subject content, pedagogical knowledge and the needs of students by providing relevant learning experiences.
