Art Teacher

Madison District Public Schools is seeking a full-time Art Teacher at the elementary level for the  school year. The ideal candidate will inspire a love for the arts, integrate art history and cultural perspectives, and foster a classroom environment that encourages experimentation, problem-solving, and critical thinking. They will be committed to supporting students of all ability levels and using a variety of mediums, techniques, and technologies to enhance learning.

Qualifications:

• Valid Michigan teaching certificate in Art Instruction, LQ Endorsement
• Knowledge of art education pedagogy and Michigan Academic Standards for Visual Arts
• Ability to work with students across a range of artistic abilities and grade levels
• Strong classroom management skills
• Effective communication and collaboration skills

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Plan, prepare, and deliver visual arts lessons aligned with state and district standards
• Teach techniques in drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, digital media, and other art forms
• Incorporate art history, cultural traditions, and contemporary art into instruction
• Organize and display student artwork for school and community exhibitions
• Maintain art supplies, tools, and classroom organization in a safe and accessible manner
• Assess student progress using a variety of methods and provide constructive feedback
• Foster an inclusive and respectful classroom culture where all students feel valued
• Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and community partners to promote the arts
• Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school events
