Job DescriptionSecondary Building Aide - Middle School (6-8) - 5.75 hours
Reports to:
Building Principal/Supervisor
- Serves as support to student(s) as assigned to ensure that student needs are met
Qualifications (Bus Driver) :

- Minimum requirement of a high school diploma
- Must meet one of the paraprofessional requirements:
- Complete at least 2 years of study (60 college credits) in an institution of higher education; OR
- Associate’s Degree or higher; OR
- Meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
- Must be able to demonstrate the ability to perform educational support tasks as directed
- Be in good physical health to be able to physically manage/support students at times
- Be able to demonstrate appropriate communication skills, both oral and written
- Must be prompt, courteous and have a record of good attendance in any employment
- Working knowledge of record keeping procedures and good organizational skills
- Have a valid Michigan driver’s license
- Provide support to student(s) as per behavioral and individual education plans to help student(s) attain educational goals
- Maintain confidentiality at all times regarding student information
- Implement strategies as directed to help students make progress toward independence
- Effectively communicate and cooperate with all staff in carrying out duties
- Keep educational progress records up to date as directed
- Implement interventions designed to help students in reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, and other subjects as directed by the teacher
- Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings
- Help to instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values
- Conducts other duties related to the aide’s duties assigned by the building principal
- Proper grooming and attire have a positive impact on the school’s image. This position involves direct service on a daily basis and the employee should maintain work attire and appearance that reflects an efficient, orderly and professionally operated organization.
- Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
- Occasional interaction among unruly children
- Occasional assistance with student health and medical needs
- The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the district.
