Huron Valley Schools is seeking an enthusiastic, energetic and effective teacher consultant. The teacher consultant role is a mostly non-caseload bearing position that leads the student support services team within the building. Looking for a highly collaborative, organized and effective communicator, using both verbal and written skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must hold a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a Special Education endorsement in Autism Spectrum Disorder (SV), Cognitive Impairments (SA), Emotional Impairments (SE), and/or Learning Disabilities (SM).
Must meet the Highly Qualified standard under the ESSA OR be recommended for a certificate or endorsement, constituting full approval in a special education area by an institution of higher education signifying verification of completion of a teacher program, as approved by the State Board of Education.
Must be willing to attend Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training after school as certification expires. Other behavioral techniques may require training after school hours.

Essential Functions:

To effectively provide instruction or support instruction to students on an Individualized Education Plan
To effectively communicate in writing and verbally with students, staff and families
To teach staff how to progress monitor student growth
To assist building special education staff in reporting data on IEP goals, providing grades and/or teach staff members how to do this
To be engaged while attending building and department meetings
To be a learner of your content and other school related topics as to benefit students
To organize and lead PLC and department meetings
To be the building Testing Accommodations Coordinator, supporting Mi-Access testing, and assist with testing accommodations
To collaborate with counselors and assist with scheduling for students on an IEP
To provide professional learning to the building staff on special education related topics
To attend all IEP meetings for alternate route special education teachers within the building as the special education teacher representative
To assist para educators, ancillary staff, and teachers within the building in completing Medicaid billing monthly
Other duties assigned by the special education director or the building principal

Ability to work independently and also with a team

Knowledge of legal mandates (IDEA, MARSE, Oakland Schools ISD Plan) regarding provision of services

Knowledge of classroom instruction interventions and behavioral management techniques

Knowledge of resources and agencies providing services to students

Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, administrators, community, staff, etc.

Ability to problem solve and provide assistance in areas requiring conflict resolution

Experience working with emotionally impaired students preferred

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Respect for confidentiality and integrity

Strong organizational skills

Professionalism and strong work ethic

Ability to interact professionally with a wide variety of individuals

Education and/or

Experience:

Bachelor's Degree or higher preferred

Language, Mathematical and Reasoning

Skills:

Ability to speak and write effectively.
Ability to apply ELA concepts to practical situations.
Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
