Hastings Area School System is seeking an enthusiastic, student-centered English Language Arts Teacher to join the team at Hastings Middle School. The successful candidate will provide engaging, standards-aligned instruction that develops students' reading, writing, speaking, listening, vocabulary, and critical-thinking skills.

We are looking for a teacher who builds strong relationships with students, maintains high expectations, collaborates effectively with colleagues, and is committed to helping every student grow academically and personally.

• Plan and deliver high-quality ELA instruction aligned with Michigan standards.
• Provide instruction in reading, writing, language, vocabulary, speaking, and critical thinking.
• Utilize student data to identify instructional needs and adjust instruction accordingly.
• Implement research-based literacy practices and strategies.
• Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment.
• Establish clear expectations for student learning, behavior, and engagement.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
• Collaborate with grade-level and content-area colleagues to support student achievement.
• Participate in the school's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) process as appropriate.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues.
• Maintain accurate student records and complete required assessments and documentation.
• Participate in professional development and contribute to a collaborative school culture.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or superintendent.

• Valid Michigan teaching certificate with appropriate ELA endorsement for the middle school level.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Strong knowledge of literacy instruction and adolescent learners.
• Excellent communication, organization, and classroom-management skills.
• Ability to establish positive relationships with middle school students.
• Commitment to collaboration, continuous improvement, and student success.

• Experience teaching English Language Arts at the middle school level.
• Experience with standards-based instruction and data-informed practices.
• Knowledge of structured literacy and the Science of Reading.
• Experience working within an MTSS framework.
