Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

Provide quality instruction for public speaking courses. Each course consists of 3 lecture hours per week. Course time: 2:20 PM – 3:50 PM In person on the Dowagiac Campus Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Communications or English, or Master’s Degree with 18 credit hours of coursework in the content area.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills
  • Demonstrated use of instructional technology

  • Previous teaching experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Promote active and collaborative learning through a variety of teaching methods, as well as relate to students.
  • Preparing and delivering lessons using a master syllabus and standardized curriculum.
  • Working comfortably with a diverse student population that includes dual-enrolled high school students, traditional college students, and nontraditional college students.
  • Grading assignments and providing feedback to students in a timely manner.
  • Utilizing a variety of student engagement strategies in the classroom to ensure active student participation.
  • Using Moodle regularly for posting assignments, attendance, and grades.
  • Being proficient with computer technologies, including Microsoft Office and email.
  • Bringing a positive, energetic, and professional attitude into the classroom.
  • Being accessible to students and responding to all in-person and electronic student inquiries.
  • Provide the department with student performance data that is required for regular outcomes assessment.
  • Becoming familiar with rules, regulations, administrative practices, guidelines, and policies of the College.

  • 1. The physical activity of this position.
    • A. Reaching. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
    • B. Fingering. Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.

    • The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
