Copper Island Academy is seeking a K-11 Physical Education/Outdoor Education Teacher to join our outstanding educational team.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic and passionate K-11 Physical Education/Outdoor Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in promoting student independence, incorporating hands‑on learning experiences, fostering the development of lifelong skills, and instilling joy and enthusiasm for physical activity and outdoor exploration.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
  • Valid teaching certification for K-11 Physical Education.
  • Experience teaching physical education and/or outdoor education.
  • Knowledge of Finnish education practices and a commitment to integrating them into physical education and outdoor learning experiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to create a positive and joy‑filled learning environment.
  • Enthusiasm for promoting healthy lifestyles, teamwork, and lifelong physical fitness.
Duties:
Promoting Student Independence:
  • Empower students to take ownership of their health and fitness by providing opportunities for self‑directed learning and goal‑setting.
  • Foster independence in decision‑making and problem‑solving within physical education and outdoor education contexts.
Incorporating Hands‑On Learning:
  • Design and implement engaging, hands‑on activities that promote physical fitness, skill development, and outdoor exploration.
  • Integrate experiential learning opportunities that allow students to apply concepts and skills in real‑world settings.
Developing Lifelong

Skills:
  • Teach fundamental movement skills, sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership skills that contribute to lifelong physical fitness and well‑being.
  • Provide opportunities for students to develop outdoor survival skills and an appreciation for outdoor recreation activities.
Instilling Joy in Physical Activity:
  • Create a supportive environment where students feel motivated and inspired to participate in physical activities and outdoor adventures.
  • Infuse lessons with elements of joy, creativity, and enthusiasm to foster a love for physical activity and outdoor exploration.
Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
  • Assess student progress in physical education and outdoor education using a variety of assessment methods.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students to support their growth and development.
Collaboration and Professional Development:
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders to integrate physical education and outdoor education into the overall school curriculum.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in physical education and outdoor education.
Community Engagement and Partnerships:
  • Establish partnerships with community organizations, outdoor recreation providers, and local businesses to enhance outdoor education opportunities for students.
  • Involve parents and community members in physical education and outdoor education events, field trips, and service‑learning projects.
