Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associate's degree or 60 credit hours or Work Keys Assessment with the minimum Michigan passing score or higher.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.
- Ability to interact with staff and parents.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with special needs students.
Primary Function:
- Support student learning under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
- Assist the classroom teacher in maintaining individual student records when asked for students identified as needing supplemental help.
- Assist the classroom teacher in maintaining a neat, clean, and orderly classroom to provide a work and study environment conducive to learning.
- Guide students in working with other students.
- Promote responsible citizenship through actions as a role model.
- Provide a classroom atmosphere based on the principles of firm, fair, and consistent practices, as well as respect for individual children and the development of responsible citizenship.
- Provide instructional support and training activities to students under the direction of the teacher.
- Take precautions to ensure staff/student safety.
- Participates in special instructional activities to meet program and student goals (e.g., loading/unloading buses, physical education, playground supervision, etc.).
- Capable of handling confidentiality.
