REPORTS TO: Superintendent
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS- Holds a valid Michigan School Administrator Certificate (Central Office or Elementary & Secondary K-12 endorsement), or eligibility to obtain such certificate.
- Michigan Department of Education approval as a Supervisor of Special Education (per Mich. Admin. Code R 340.1772) preferred; candidates without current approval must be willing to pursue full or temporary approval, including the required graduate coursework, within a Board-approved timeline.
- Master's Degree in special education, educational leadership, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 3 years of successful experience in special education, consistent with Mich. Admin. Code R 340.1772; supervisory experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, MARSE (Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education), and FAPE/Child Find obligations.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
CONTRACT AND SALARY The Supervisor of Student Support Services shall be employed under a full-time (1.0 FTE), 200-day annual contract. Salary shall be determined by the Board of Education based on experience and level of training/degree, consistent with the district's administrative salary and contract practices.
GOALS- To ensure that every student with a disability in Hudson Area Schools receives a free appropriate public education (FAPE) through legally compliant, high-quality, and individualized special education programming.
- To provide leadership, coordination, communication, and compliance oversight so that the district's special education programs and services meet the needs of students, families, and staff across all buildings and programs, in partnership with the Lenawee ISD.
- Serve as the district's authorized Supervisor of Special Education for state and federal compliance purposes, including IEP, Section 504, and Child Find obligations.
- Be responsible for ensuring timely, compliant evaluations, IEPs, and re-evaluations across all buildings and programs, including Hudson Tech Alternative Education.
- Respond to and help resolve state complaints, due process requests, and OCR/504 matters in coordination with district legal counsel and the Lenawee ISD special education office.
- Be responsible for maintaining accurate special education data and reporting (e.g., CIMS, MSDS, Count Day certifications) in compliance with state and federal deadlines.
- Monitor special education staff caseloads and student progress to ensure compliance with Michigan caseload guidelines and equitable distribution of workload.
- Assist in the adaptation of district and building policies and handbooks to address special education needs and requirements.
- Support in-service training and professional development for special education staff and building administrators to ensure ongoing compliance with special education regulations.
- Support district-employed special education staff, including participation in hiring, and professional development planning.
- Serve as the primary liaison between Hudson Area Schools and the Lenawee ISD for contracted special education staff, ancillary services, and regional programming.
- Work cooperatively with building principals on scheduling, staffing ratios, and least restrictive environment placements.
- Support alignment between general education Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS/RTI) and special education programming.
- Serve as a point of contact for parents/guardians on special education concerns, disputes, and mediation.
- Represent Hudson Area Schools at Lenawee ISD director-level meetings, MAASE regional meetings, and relevant county special education planning committees.
- Perform other role-related duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
