Description

Metro Engineering Solutions (MES) is looking for a Traffic Sign Designer to join our team! MES is a multifaceted utility and telecommunications engineering firm serving clients throughout the Midwest. The Traffic Sign Designer is responsible for working effectively in a variety of computer systems and software applications while providing internal and power utility clients with utility design services and solutions needed to accurately create traffic signs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Produce Traffic Control Signs from start to finish, ensuring compliance with MUTCD and local regulations.
  • Operate and maintain wide-format plotters, rollover tables, laminators, and other production equipment.
  • Use Flexi software and other sign design tools to create accurate, scalable layouts for regulatory, warning, and custom signage.
  • Apply vinyl to various sign substrates using proper alignment and finishing techniques.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks to ensure durability and legibility of produced signs.
  • Assist with field installation and inspection of temporary and permanent traffic control signs as needed.
  • Work closely with engineering, operations, and field crews to meet project timelines and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in both shop and field settings.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of experience in traffic sign production, fabrication, or related field.
  • Proficiency with vinyl cutting/printing, Flexi software, and plotter operation.
  • Familiarity with rollover tables and their use in sign construction is highly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret sign plans, traffic control layouts, and technical drawings.
  • Knowledge of Temporary Traffic Control standards is a plus.
  • Comfortable working in a shop setting and occasionally outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • OSHA or other relevant safety certifications are a plus.
