Senior Scientist

Position Overview

Responsible for building and executing a pipeline of research and development activities specifically relating to materials science, development and implementation of new resins, barriers, additives, processes, and increasing usage of Post Consumer Recycled resins.

• Use material science knowledge to lead research and decision making relative to new resin solutions and alternatives.
• Drive ongoing innovation and technology scouting activities in sustainability within the materials arena.
• Act as internal expert on PCR usage and approaches for increasing PCR in RPSNAB products.
• Maintain timelines and budgets for material development programs aligned with overall business objectives.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, coaching and mentoring others.
• Lead high priority cross‑functional development programs, including indirect leadership of project teams.
• Prescribe use of appropriate project management and engineering tools for development and implementation of resin and barrier solutions.
• Provide technical guidance to engineering, manufacturing, and other internal and external customers as required.
• Support business units to create a business case for resin and barrier solutions, including performance specifications, costing and overall value proposition.
• Establish inspection protocol and validate new product and materials specifications.
• Oversee resin trials and participate in material selection activities.
• Specify and approve lab work requests, sign off on resin and process configurations, and oversee qualification of new resins and materials.
• Maintain strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, manage stakeholders and executive reporting.
• Maintain and enforce all company safety, environmental, and health and safety requirements.

• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in a materials‑related discipline (preferred).
• 8–10+ years of relevant experience in materials science and development.
• Proficient in material science with impact on injection and blow molding processes.
• Knowledge of PET, PP, HDPE and basic alternative materials.
• Experience with plastics conversion technologies such as extrusion, injection molding, blow molding and ISBM.
• Evidence of program leadership in a corporate setting, defining, implementing and maintaining program management practices.
• Strong analytical and independent decision‑making skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work autonomously and in complex R&D environments.
• Travel up to 10%.
