OVERVIEW

Test & Development Internship. Work with a small team of design engineers, test engineers, and test technicians supporting engineering‑related projects. Gain and apply engineering knowledge to solve real‑world engineering design, testing, analysis, and development problems across automotive, defense, motorsports, aerospace, marine, and niche industries. Projects include virtual prototype development, component, system, and full vehicle testing, laboratory testing, engineering analysis, control systems, electronics, and product/system validation.

Essential Functions & Skills
  • Support execution of laboratory and in‑field testing projects (proving grounds, desert, wind tunnel, thermal dynamometer chamber, racetrack, etc.) with senior engineers and technicians.
  • Strong Windows and Microsoft application skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to use CAD (NX, Creo, Catia, Solid Works) and PLM tools (Windchill, Teamcenter, etc.) for test fixture design, drawing development, and manufacturing release.
  • Professional verbal and written communication.
  • Perform in a matrix organization and dynamic, fast‑paced environment.
  • Proven multitasking and organizational skills.
  • Work safely and comply with all safety expectations.
  • Service‑oriented mindset.
Education / Certification / Experience
  • Working toward a BS in Materials Science, Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or Automotive Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Preferably current participation in one or more SAE International collegiate design competitions (Formula SAE, Baja SAE, SAE Clean Snowmobile Challenge, Formula SAE Electric, First Robotics, SAE Solar Car, etc.).
  • Highly self‑motivated, able to accept direction and manage workload to meet deadlines with reasonable oversight.
  • Mechanical skills including use of common hand tools.
Desired Specialized Skills & Knowledge
  • Strong engineering fundamentals in general automotive systems with real‑world vehicle experience.
  • Basic working knowledge of data acquisition and instrumentation equipment; ability to collect, analyze test data, and write technical reports and presentations under guidance.
  • Skilled trades experience: fabrication, machining, MIG/TIG welding, and assembly.
  • Vehicle logistics competency (trucks, trailers, towing, vehicle recovery).
Work Environment
  • Office work in a typical interior environment with no hazardous elements.
  • Shop or laboratory work with moderate accident risk; basic safety precautions required.
  • In‑field, proving grounds, or track testing may involve extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, chemicals, etc. Stress may occur.
  • Monthly travel may be required depending on project needs and candidate availability.
Physical Demands
  • Position requires occasional or frequent moderate physical activity.
Expected Hours of Work
  • Typical 40‑hour week.
  • Overtime compensated at 1.5x normal pay.
  • Internship hours flexible; typical day starts at 7 am, Monday‑Friday.
  • Flexible schedule may be required for customer deadlines, including longer hours, Saturdays, or Sundays during peak deliverables or offsite testing trips.

Pay Range

$18.00 - $37.00 per hour. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Individual pay is based on scope, experience, education, skills, and team equity.
