Environmental Health and Safety Specialist
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist will provide health, safety, and environmental accountability & leadership for our dynamic and rapidly growing facility. This position will be charged with creating and continuing a safety culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and ownership. This key role will work as an onsite team of one responsible for evaluating working conditions, and leading the health, safety programs, and environmental initiatives of the site, while ensuring compliance with government and company regulations across all American Battery Solutions facilities.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit Tier II Reports.
- Responsible for the management of the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System. Must be able to write and update Environmental Operating Procedures.
- Responsible for developing policies, procedures, programs, training, and implementation tools to maintain a safe work environment and good environmental stewardship.
- Maintain OSHA logs, medical records, training records, and all other safety and environmental records.
- Maintain and ensure compliance with corporate EHS requirements.
- Track, monitor, and revise organizational and facility specific EHS KPIs.
- Lead and facilitate injury case management striving to attain both adequate care and positive outcome for the facility.
- Inspect operations and equipment to determine hazards, recommend proper controls and implement corrections.
- Lead and facilitate safety incident/mishap investigations to ensure root causes are identified and corrective actions are implemented.
- Facilitate with EHS Manager and safety committees all required medical monitoring and testing.
- Work in partnership with leadership teams to ensure all safety control measures and regulations are included in capital projects.
- Lead and facilitate safety communication actions for plant-wide distribution.
- Provide strategic direction for accomplishing an injury-free culture.
- Lead and facilitate contractor safety expectations and training.
- Lead the LOTO evaluations, hazard assessments, new equipment safety assessments, and review work instructions to establish effective safety controls.
- Provide effective and appropriate guidance to the leadership team and safety committees.
- Support the production operator.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
- Adhere to corporate, federal, and state employment policies.
- Adhere to all company policies.
- Ability to travel to our OH Production facility (20%).
- Other duties as assigned.
- Predictable and reliable attendance.
Position Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in EHS and/or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in the Environmental Health and Safety field.
- Experience with Lithium-ion batteries is a plus.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team and manage multiple projects and prioritize workload.
- Results-driven individual who has demonstrated the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Displays a customer-focused work ethic with the ability to interact with all levels of employees.
- Experience with NFPA 70E and electrical safety standards
- Ability to perform audits and hazard assessments of all areas including but not limited to the facility, manufacturing, testing, and build areas.
- Able to perform classroom and on-the-job training for EHS topics.
- Working knowledge of Safety, Environmental, and Quality Management systems including OHSAS 18001, ISO
14001, and TS16949. - Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.
