Vehicle Calibration Engineer
The position is responsible for developing, testing, and validating vehicle-based calibrations that achieve world-class torque security calibrations for both spark-ignited engines and electrical powertrain systems.
RequiredSkills & Qualifications (Must-have qualifications that candidates must meet to be considered)
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related STEM field (Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar).
- 0-3 years of engineering experience; strong recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Strong hands-on automotive experience demonstrated through personal vehicle projects, SAE/FSAE programs, automotive clubs, or internships.
- Strong interest in automotive systems, vehicle controls, and vehicle testing.
- Ability and willingness to perform hands-on vehicle work, including testing, troubleshooting, and failure mode validation activities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment and collaborate across multiple engineering groups and with unionized shop personnel.
- Willingness to travel as required for validation and verification activities.
- Flexibility to support occasional extended hours and weekend work during critical testing events, launch activities, software issues, or field concerns.
- Prior work experience at client or in client's Industry.
- Applicants must be able to work directly for Artech on W2.
Skills & Qualifications (Nice-to-have skills but are not required)
- Experience with MATLAB and/or Simulink.
- Prior calibration, controls, or powertrain experience.
- Exposure to functional safety concepts and validation testing.
- Knowledge of vehicle sensors, engine controls, powertrain systems, or electric propulsion systems.
- Previous automotive internship or co-op experience.
- Experience collecting, analyzing, and interpreting vehicle or engine test data.
- Familiarity with OBD systems, diagnostics, or validation testing processes.
- Plan, generate, and verify feature calibrations in hot climate, cold climate, and high altitude in accordance with powertrain system functional objectives.
- Manipulate and utilize large and complex sets of engine mapping data to analyze and solve complex system problems.
- Work cross-functionally with engine development, powertrain controls, and vehicle teams to identify and implement calibration solutions.
- Support functional safety validation activities by inducing sensor and system failures and verifying vehicle systems' responses.
- Perform hands-on vehicle testing using breakout harnesses and other diagnostic equipment.
- Execute vehicle reaction testing and validation test plans to ensure systems meet functional safety requirements.
- Support vehicle troubleshooting, issue resolution, software validation activities, and launch readiness efforts.
- Coordinate with unionized shop personnel regarding vehicle updates, repairs, instrumentation, and testing activities.
- Participate in technical reviews, calibration discussions, issue resolution meetings, and cross-functional team activities.
- Operate and evaluate development vehicles at proving grounds and other test locations while documenting results and communicating findings.
