Duties
Help
Participates with other staff officers and District Rangers as a team member representing engineering to arrive at recommendations for the engineering organization, engineering programs, and objectives.
Participates with the Supervisor and other staff officers as a problem-solving team member.
Develops short and long-range programs that reflect functional needs, resource capabilities, opportunities, and national and regional direction.
Prepares annual programs of works and recommends allocations of funds that reflect District workload and complexities.
Coordinates with the planning and programming group in interpreting direction and provides guidance within the engineering program.
Facilitates accomplishment of Forest objectives commensurate with available funding and other constraints.
Recommends changes in program direction as indicated by changing direction from the regional level, rate of progress toward goals and objectives, changes in resource management programs, emergency situations, and other factors.
Makes personal visits to field units to keep informed about general conditions, monitor policy and direction compliance, and provide general guidance.
Performs supervisory duties 20% or less of the time.
