SUMMARY:
The Automation Engineer is responsible for the design, programming, implementation, and continuous improvement of robotic and automated systems used in manufacturing operations. This role works closely with engineering, production, and maintenance teams to develop automation solutions that improve safety, quality, efficiency, and productivity. The Automation Engineer serves as the technical expert for FANUC robots, Panasonic welding systems, and related automation equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, develop, and implement robotic and automated systems to support manufacturing operations.
- Program, configure, test, and troubleshoot industrial robots and related automation equipment.
- Perform offline programming and simulation of robotic systems using software such as FANUC Weld Pro and Visual Components
- Develop and modify robotic weld paths, welding parameters, and process configurations to ensure product quality and cycle time targets
- Evaluate manufacturing processes and identify opportunities for automation and process improvement.
- Analyze weld quality issues and implement corrective actions to improve consistency and reduce scrap.
- Lead or support the installation, startup, and validation of robotic systems.
- Develop and revise equipment specifications, technical documentation, operating procedures, and training materials.
- Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, controls, and robotic system issues to minimize downtime.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Collaborate with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to improve equipment performance and reliability.
- Ensure robotic systems comply with safety standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with equipment suppliers, system integrators, and contractors on automation projects.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, ergonomics, and cost reduction.
- Train operators and maintenance personnel on robotic equipment operation and best practices.
- Stay current on advancements in robotics, automation, controls, and manufacturing technologies.

EDUCATION AND/OR
EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Robotics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Experience designing, programming, implementing, or supporting robotic and automated systems in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience troubleshooting industrial automation, controls, or robotic equipment.
- Experience with industrial robotic systems such as FANUC and Panasonic
- Experience managing multiple projects and priorities effectively.
- Ability to work onsite in Clare, Michigan.
LANGUAGE
