The Tax Compliance Bureau (TCB), Tobacco Enforcement section within the Discovery & Tax Enforcement Division, is recruiting a candidate to lead our Tobacco Tax Enforcement Section. The role requires managing complex assignments, overseeing project planning and execution, and actively supervising the section. The position also involves enforcing compliance with the Tobacco Product Tax Act (TPTA).
Key responsibilities include all field tobacco compliance checks and enforcement activities statewide, ensuring consistency and adherence to policies, procedures, and established guidelines for the inspection and enforcement of the Tobacco Product Tax Act.
Responsibilities- Lead the Tobacco Tax Enforcement Section
- Manage statewide field tobacco compliance checks and enforcement activities
- Coordinate examination and enforcement actions under the Tobacco Product Tax Act
- Ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and established guidelines
- Supervise, train, and develop section staff
- Plan and execute projects to improve enforcement outcomes
- Education:
Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major - Mandated experience:
Four years of professional experience providing regulation and investigative services equivalent to a Regulation Agent or Regulation Officer, including at least two years at the P11 level or one year at the P12 level - Additional experience:
Six years of experience in a law-enforcement agency, corporate security setting, or the United States Armed Services providing investigative services as an investigator or sworn detective
All work must be performed in the state of Michigan. Remote work is available for Michigan residents for three days per week with required onsite presence two days per week.
The Department participates in E‑Verify and requires a fingerprint‑based background check per IRS Publication 1075.
