Job Description

The Communication and Outreach Division Director is an in-person position responsible for the development and implementation of internal and external communications strategies that advance the Michigan State Police (MSP) mission and enhance public and employee perspectives of the department. This position serves as an effective spokesperson, writer, and strategist, while leading the MSP's communications across a full range of modern media, in innovative and effective ways.

The Michigan State Police (MSP) is a full-service policing agency with statewide jurisdiction, providing over 60 different services either directly to Michigan residents or in support of other law enforcement agencies. The MSP personnel most visible to the public are the uniform troopers whose primary responsibilities include traffic enforcement, crime prevention and investigation, and community engagement and service.

Employees in this job are part of the Senior Executive Service (SES) authorized and defined by Civil Service Commission Rule 4-6. Appointments are limited to a term not to exceed two years. Incumbents may be re-appointed to additional terms. Additional conditions of employment specific to the SES are addressed in the SES rule.

Required

Education and Experience

Education Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major. Experience Two years of professional experience as a manager or program/staff specialist or equivalent experience.

Alternate

Education and Experience

Education level typically acquired through completion of high school and three years of safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 14 level; or, two years of safety and regulatory or law enforcement supervisory experience at the 15 level, may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.
