Overview:

Paramedics respond to medical and traumatic emergencies, provide basic and advanced life support procedures. Paramedics carry themselves with the utmost professionalism and assist other company departments where needed.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Respond to select medical and traumatic emergencies.
  • Provide emergency medical care at the scene, adhering to Company, local, regional, and state guidelines regarding patient care.
  • Perform basic, intermediate, and advanced life support procedures.
  • Perform other duties related to emergency and non-emergency medical care and development of the emergency medical system and/or Great Lakes Rescue.
  • This is primarily an Echo Response Unit, Intercept Unit, and ALS Event Stand-By Unit.
Specific and Additional Tasks / Duties:
  • Present an example of professionalism and leadership for others to follow, placing patient care excellence above all else.
  • Ensure knowledge, understanding, and compliance with Great Lakes Rescue policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and provide quality customer care.
  • Ensure that the vehicle and equipment are ready for use at the beginning of the shift and after every call.
  • Respond to emergencies and non-emergencies using appropriate care and caution in accordance with Michigan law, EMS regulations, company policy, and safe emergency vehicle operation principles.
  • Adhere to Universal Precautions/Body Substance Isolation when dealing with patient contacts.
  • Act as a team leader when necessary and appropriate, directing and supervising other members of the emergency medical care team.
  • Render emergency and non-emergency medical care in accordance with the rules, regulations, protocols, policies, and procedures of Great Lakes Rescue, the State of Michigan, MDHHS, and the Berrien County Medical Control Authority.
  • Perform indicated Advanced Life Support procedures as per the appropriate Protocols under the direction and supervision of the Medical Control Authority.
  • Work with all personnel in a professional manner and maintain good relations with outside staff and services.
  • Act in the best interests of high-quality patient care and reflect credibly on Great Lakes Rescue.
  • Provide high-quality patient care while transporting patients to the receiving facility.
  • Complete all appropriate documentation and Patient Care Records for every patient contact.
  • Perform duties related to public relations and community education programs sponsored by Patriot Ambulance Inc.
  • Attend appropriate continuing education courses as required and ensure continuity with all required certifications.
  • Provide Great Lakes Rescue with a current copy of their EMT/Paramedic certification, CPR card, Motor Vehicle Driver’s License, etc.
  • Report to assigned shifts in proper uniform and on time.
  • Accommodate and train third riders for orientation and/or educational purposes.
  • Consult with supervisor on non-routine matters.
  • Complete various day-to-day assignments (i.e., cleaning, laundry, trash removal, etc.).
  • Complete any other tasks or duties as assigned.
Location, Reporting Structure and

Hours:
  • Paramedic positions are currently Part Time.
  • Positions are located in the Coloma, Michigan area but employees may be required to move to alternate locations in certain circumstances.
  • The position works under the general direction of the operations manager.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements :
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Strong multi-tasking and time management abilities.
  • Currently certified as a Paramedic by the State of Michigan, MDHHS is required.
