Overview
A Day in the Life
- Works for and provides assistance to the Rehabilitation Services Department. Acts as a receptionist in the Rehabilitation Department. Registers patients, gathering and verifying necessary insurance, billing and medical record information.
- Schedules patients, assembles patient files/record, records departmental attendance, obtains prior authorizations and/or certifications.
- Performs general typing/keyboarding tasks. May assist with some of the general duties performed by the Physical Therapy aide.
- Provide assistance to the Rehabilitation Services Department and act as a receptionist in the Rehabilitation Department.
- Register patients, gather and verify insurance, billing and medical record information.
- Schedule patients; assemble patient files/records; record departmental attendance; obtain prior authorizations and/or certifications.
- Perform general typing/keyboard tasks and assist with general duties in the Rehabilitation Department as needed.
What’s Required
- High school level of knowledge including typing/keyboard at 70 WPM, and ability to use computer software and pass skills assessment.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Three to six months of office experience, preferably with experience in answering the phone, meeting the public, maintaining records, scheduling, and using a computer.
- One to three months of on-the-job training and experience in order to become familiar with the Rehabilitation Department, the nursing units and other hospital locations; learn other service/clerical duties.
