Medical Technologist​/Medical Lab Technician

In the LABORATORY department, the Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Laboratory Technologist conducts laboratory testing on patient specimens, including chemical and hematological testing of blood or body fluids, and microbiological cultures of various body sites. You demonstrate the ability to maintain equipment and records, and to perform quality assurance activities related to test performance.

You may also function as an educator, shift leader, or researcher within the clinical laboratory as needed.

The organization:
Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital, a 25-bed hospital serving the community with clinics and outreach services in Laurium, Calumet, Houghton and Lake Linden.

• Conduct laboratory testing on patient specimens, including chemical and hematological testing of blood or body fluids, and microbiological cultures of various body sites.
• Maintain equipment and records and perform quality assurance activities related to test performance.
• Function as an educator, shift leader, or researcher within the clinical laboratory as needed.

• Board of Registry Certification as MT or MLT (ASCP, AMT, AD) or CS (NCA) eligible; must receive certification within one year of hire.
• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Associate degree, or equivalent.
• Previous experience in a clinical laboratory preferred.
• Meticulous attention to detail with elevated critical thinking skills.
• Understanding and tactful with patients, visitors, and co-workers, even under stress.
