Position SummaryResponsible for maintaining and organizing patient medical records, ensuring they are accurate, up-to-date, and easily accessible. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, as well as ability to handle sensitive information with discretion. The clerk will work closely with various departments to ensure that records are properly filed and maintained according to hospital policy and legal requirements.
Duties & Responsibilities- Analyze a medical record request to ensure it meets HIPAA compliance
- Verify proper release of information forms are obtained and meet all requirements
- Complete medical record requests accurately and timely according to HIPAA guidelines and regulations
- Transcribe medical reports
- Assist healthcare providers with accessing patient medical records and any other duties they may require
- Retrieve and distribute paperwork throughout the facility
- Scan and upload documents into the electronic health record
- Check and correct documentation and placement of previously filed documents
- Monitor the fax queue
- Demonstrate appropriateness in meeting objectives in age-specifics
- Perform other duties as assigned
- High School Graduate or equivalent
- Proficient computer, clerical, and communication skills
- Integrity, discretion, and respect for confidentiality and privacy
- Keyboarding optimal 65 wpm or more
- Strong data entry skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Exceptional knowledge/adherence to privacy and confidentiality
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Attention to details/accuracy
- Ability to interpret clinical data
- Ability to deal with interruptions such as frequent telephone calls
- Completion of a Medical Terminology program or course that includes Anatomy, Physiology, and Pharmacology
- Must be able to operate office machines, including transcription equipment
- Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT) preferred
- Heartcode CPR Certified (obtain upon employment)
