Performs laboratory procedures according to protocols consistent with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988. Conducts a variety of chemical, microscopic, bacteriologic and diagnostic laboratory tests to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of medical disorder, bodily dysfunction and evaluation of patient response to treatment. Analyzes and documents test results and reports clinical findings. Performs incidental specimen procurement, preparation and processing.

Performs tests in the sections of Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology and Blood Bank.

Trinity Health Shelby is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) to join our laboratory team. Qualified Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLTs) will also be considered based on experience, certification, and organizational policy.

• Receives specimens, clarifies test requests, checks specimen integrity/labeling. Organizes, prepares and processes specimens.
• Works independently in assigned departments with the laboratory. Performs testing, evaluates results, solves problems, documents results and communicates reports as needed.
• Assists in training and orientation of new employees and students.
• Performs specimen collection duties.

• MLS (ASCP) certification or
• MLT (ASCP) certification
• Associates/Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry or Biology.
• National Licensure as a Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Technician - ASCP, AMT

Language

Skills:

• Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Additionally languages preferred.
