Responsibilities- Receives, prepares, and returns radiopharmaceuticals according to policies and workflow protocols.
- Communicates with hospital personnel regarding scheduling other procedures and ensures proper care and radiation safety for patients, including pediatric and pregnancy screening.
- Calibrates and operates equipment, including daily calibration of the dose calibrator and Geiger Counter, to provide optimal Nuclear Medicine examinations in accordance with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Bronson policies.
- Under the direction of the radiologist, administers or assists in the administration of radiopharmaceuticals (either orally or intravenously).
- Consults with the radiologist to clarify orders or discuss unusual situations.
- Operates gamma cameras, performing regular quality control daily, weekly, and monthly.
- Reports any malfunctions, necessary adjustments, or repairs immediately.
- Maintains records regarding safe disposal of biohazard/nuclear waste and properly disposes of all biohazard/nuclear waste according to NRC guidelines.
- Demonstrates complete knowledge of proper procedures to follow in case of a major or minor spill and responds immediately.
- Graduate from an accredited hospital‑based program, college, or university recognized by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
- At least three months of clinical and on‑the‑job training.
- Registration from ARRT Nuclear Medicine or NMTCB within six months of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within two months of hire.
- Demonstrated human‑relation skills with patients, physicians, and others in difficult or sensitive situations, including verbal and written communication, problem solving, and assertiveness.
- Ability to work with high mental/visual fatigue, maintain alertness during prolonged periods, stand or walk regularly, and lift light‑weight objects (up to 20 pounds) with occasional heavier tasks.
- Knowledge of safety procedures for spills, safe disposal of biohazard/nuclear waste, and compliance with NRC regulations.
