Position Overview

Title:

Patient Safety Assistant – PRN/Variable Shift – BLH & BSH

Location:

Bronson Lake View Hospital (BLH) and Bronson South Haven (BSH) – Bronson Healthcare Group.

Responsibilities
  • Under direct supervision of the manager, promote patient safety and companionship for assigned patients (pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric).
  • Observe and report patient activities and behaviors, and intervene appropriately to assure patient safety.
  • Demonstrate appropriate communication skills with patients, families, and other healthcare providers while practicing confidentiality and safety procedures.
  • Provide services in accordance with policy and procedure manuals and exhibit competencies specific to the population served.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work environment, including proper body positioning, safe work practices, and the use of personal protective equipment when necessary.
  • Assist with patient turns, transfers to commode/bathroom, feeding, and orientation of new sitters.
  • Assist with diagnostic tests as required.
  • Work within physical demands such as standing, walking, lifting light‑weight objects (up to 20 pounds) and assisting with heavier tasks.
  • 80% Observation and prevention of unsafe patient behavior/activity
  • 10% Communicating with the responsible R.N. about patient status and pertinent input to facilitate care planning
  • 5% Accompanying patients for diagnostic tests occasionally
  • 5% Maintaining a clean and orderly environment
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in a health‑care delivery setting preferred.
  • Clear communication abilities with patients/families and others.
  • Proficiency in oral and written grammar and communication.
  • Must have a home telephone or telephone contact.
  • Safe patient handling skills required.
  • Ability to maintain a neat and orderly work environment.
  • Comfortable with standing or walking for prolonged periods, lifting patients, and using patient transfer devices.
  • Available to work on short notice.
Shift and Schedule

Variable shift (PRN/Variable Shift), part‑time, scheduled weekly hours: 10 hours.
