Bilingual Patient Companion: Volunteer

What You'll Do

• Communicate with patients in their preferred language to provide emotional support and companionship
• Assist families in understanding care instructions and updates when language barriers exist
• Help patients feel seen, heard, and understood through conversation and connection
• Support activities such as reading, reflection, or light engagement in the patient's preferred language

Support needs can vary by area and are dependent on our current patient census.

We recommend volunteers take on Companionship (English) visits while opportunities in their chosen language become available.

• Make a meaningful difference for patients who speak languages other than English
• Flexible scheduling options to fit your availability
• Gain experience in healthcare, social work, and multicultural communication

• Fluency in English plus one of the common languages spoken, such as Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin, or Hindi
• Compassion, reliability, and strong communication skills
• Completion of volunteer training program
• Background check and TB test
