Respiratory Therapist, Part‑time Days, Benefit Eligible - BBC (Bronson Battle Creek)

Bronson Battle Creek, Michigan (Bronson Hospital)

Under general supervision from the Respiratory Manager and/or Director, the Respiratory Therapist provides respiratory care to patients with cardiopulmonary abnormalities and deficiencies in patient care areas of the hospital, following provider prescriptions and established policies and procedures.

• Administer respiratory therapies (age-specific) in accordance with provider orders, protocols, or guidelines.
• Explain therapy to patients in understandable terms, assess patient responses, and make recommendations to providers.
• Administer, assess, and titrate oxygen therapy; modify therapy according to respiratory protocols.
• Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and assist with 'Code Blue' as necessary, providing life support per BLS, ACLS, NRP, and PALS guidelines.
• Assist with or perform tracheal intubation (upon competency completion) and maintain artificial airways, including suctioning and tube security.
• Conduct basic pulmonary function testing, EKGs, arterial blood gases, pulse oximetry, end tidal CO2 monitoring, and transcutaneous oximetry per departmental policies.
• Assist with bedside bronchoscopies, intubations, extubations, and tracheal suction and sample collections.
• Assist with patient transport (walking, wheelchair, gurney, or crib) and, when required, ambulance transport between facilities.
• Provide patient and family education and collaborate with the healthcare team.
• Maintain and clean respiratory equipment, ensuring readiness and supply availability.
• Participate in quality assurance, clinical education (preceptor, new staff orientation, students), and departmental improvement initiatives.

• Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy (AS) required;
  Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Current Respiratory Therapist license in the State of Michigan. For candidates hired after 2004, Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required within 1 year of hire.
• Certification in BLS (within 3 months of hire); ACLS, PALS, and NRP (site-specific) within 1 year of hire.
• Completion of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program (certificate, diploma, AS degree) and 5 years of experience (for BLH and BSH only). Bachelor’s degree preferred by those sites.
• Capacity to perform duties requiring standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, stooping, crouching, kneeling, and rapid movement to respond to emergencies.
• Strong customer service orientation and ability to adhere to Bronson Commitment to Customer Service standards.

• Part-time, first shift (days) with scheduled 24 weekly hours.
• Sign‑on bonus up to $2,500.00 for external candidates.
