Job Title & Location

Respiratory Therapist – Full‑time (72 Hours per Pay Period).

Work Shift:

11 a.m. – 11 p.m.

Location:

Bronson Battle Creek Hospital, Michigan

Under general supervision from the Respiratory Manager and/or Director, the Respiratory Therapist provides respiratory care in patient care areas of the hospital, following provider prescriptions and established policies and procedures. Serves as a resource to providers, nurses, and other team members regarding advanced respiratory diagnoses and rehabilitation.

• Initiate and administer respiratory care to patients with cardiopulmonary abnormalities.
• Follow provider prescriptions and/or established policies and procedures.
• Evaluate and monitor blood gases, making therapy adjustments as needed.
• Communicate ventilator recommendations to providers and nursing.
• Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and assist with “Code Blue,” following BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP guidelines.
• Assist or perform tracheal intubations and maintain artificial airways.
• Perform pulmonary function testing, EKGs, arterial blood gases, pulse oximetry, end‑tidal CO₂ monitoring, and transcutaneous oximetry.
• Assist with bedside bronchoscopies, intubations, and extubations.
• Provide patient and family education regarding respiratory therapy.
• Maintain and clean respiratory equipment for readiness and supply availability.
• Assist with patient transport, both intra‑facility and inter‑facility as required.
• Serve as a preceptor and supervise Respiratory Care students, completing required preceptor courses.
• Participate in departmental and hospital‑wide quality assurance and improvement initiatives.
• Adapt to fluctuations in patient census and be willing to work overtime when necessary.

• Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy (AS);
  Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Current Michigan Respiratory Therapist license.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist credentials (RRT) required within one year of hire for those hired after 2004.
• Completion of AHA courses: BLS (within 3 months of hire), ACLS, PALS, and NRP (within one year of hire) as required.
• 5 years of experience in a Respiratory Therapy program for those hired after 2004 (Bachelors preferred).
• Ability to handle mental/visual fatigue and physical demands associated with standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, and rapid response to emergencies.
• Strong customer‑service orientation and adherence to Bronson “Commitment to Customer Service” standards.

• Full‑time position with variable shift hours (36 scheduled weekly hours).
• Sign‑on bonus for external candidates: up to $5,000.00.
• Retention bonus for external candidates: $10,000.00.
• Coverage of required certifications and continuing education through AHA courses.
