The Medical Transportation Coordinator is responsible for safely transporting residents to medical appointments while coordinating appointment schedules, maintaining communication with homes and healthcare providers, and ensuring all transportation-related documentation is accurate and complete. This position plays an important role in helping residents receive timely medical care while supporting the overall efficiency of the organization.
Role responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Safely transport residents to and from medical, dental, therapy, behavioral health, and specialty appointments
- Assist residents entering and exiting vehicles as needed
- Ensure residents are transported in a respectful, compassionate, and person-centered manner
- Follow all resident transportation plans and safety procedures
- Assist with wheelchairs, walkers, and adaptive equipment when necessary
- Ensure residents have all required paperwork, insurance cards, medications, and appointment information before leaving
- Coordinate daily transportation schedules
- Confirm appointments with medical offices when necessary
- Communicate appointment times and transportation schedules with Home Managers and Regional Directors
- Notify homes promptly of appointment delays or schedule changes
- Assist in reducing missed appointments through effective communication and planning
- Reporting to Regional Director Supervisor
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Michigan driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- Ability to pass all required background checks
- Ability to safely transport individuals with varying physical and behavioral needs
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Basic computer skills
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to drive for extended periods
- Ability to assist residents entering and exiting vehicles
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds when necessary
- Frequent walking, bending, standing, and reaching
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions
Preferred Requirements:
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities
- Experience transporting medical patients
- CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare appointments
