Title
Medical Social Worker – Full Time, 40 Hours per Week (Bronson Obstetrics & Gynecology Specialists – Battle Creek)
LocationBronson Battle Creek / Marshall Hospital – Battle Creek, MI
Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive social work services across all medical areas, including mental health, crisis intervention, substance abuse, domestic violence, child/adult abuse, grief counseling, and other behavioral health issues.
- Conduct patient and family assessments, develop individualized discharge plans, and coordinate care transitions to psychiatric facilities, substance abuse treatment, and other community resources.
- Educate patients and families about available community resources, rights, and services; facilitate access to culturally competent support.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team and external agencies to devise and implement the best care plan for each patient.
- Administer behavioral health screenings, perform detailed assessments, and provide brief interventions and crisis response within the ambulatory medical practice setting.
- Identify high‑risk psychosocial needs and act as patient advocate to mitigate problems surrounding crisis situations.
- Maintain thorough documentation in the patient’s medical record, ensuring compliance with licensing regulations and organizational policies.
- Participate in the development and revision of departmental policies, procedures, and protocols; support positive work climate.
- Mentor and supervise students; undertake professional development activities and contribute to the growth of the social work team.
- Ensure compliance with state licensing, recipient rights education, and other regulatory requirements as applicable to the hospital.
- Master’s Degree in Social Work with a valid state license (LMSW or LLMSW) obtained within two years of hire; or a Master’s in Psychology/Counseling with a licensed professional counselor or psychologist license.
- 1‑2 years of professional level experience in healthcare or mental health (preferred).
- Current Michigan driver’s license and proof of insurance.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including effective interviewing, problem‑solving, negotiation, and conflict‑resolution abilities.
- Basic computer and word‑processing proficiency.
- Physical ability to move throughout patient care units, lift up to 50 pounds, and perform activities requiring sustained concentration on a computer.
- Commitment to culturally competent, evidence‑based social work practice and to continuing professional development.
