- Transfer and transport patients safely and effectively from Patient Care Areas to and from diagnostic/ testing areas
- Transport stable, non-monitored patients from Patient Care Areas to and from diagnostic/ testing areas (such as CT, X-ray, Angio, Hemo) and to inpatient units for admissions.
- Able to effectively communicate with the patient, family, visitors, and the direct care providers.
- Transporters are to directly speak with the RN or the Healthcare Provider prior to a transport and when the patient returns to the unit.
- Transporters are to assist the patient with his/her restroom needs as necessary.
- Able to safely transfer patients using a transfer device such as a patient sling, slide board, or other hospital approved transfer devices.
- Cleans transport equipment between each patient use.
- Transport, locate, and redistribute equipment such as stretchers, wheelchairs, Airpals, Stryker Glides, oxygen, and other necessary equipment to perform transports.
- Replaces oxygen tanks as needed (less than 500 psi).
- Provides directions to families and/or visitors.
- Attends and participates in departmental meetings and continuing educational activities.
- Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participates in their resolution.
- Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, employees, and visitors to Saint Joseph Mercy Health System. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.
- Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.
- Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of Saint Joseph Mercy Health System.

- Basic skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic.
- High school diploma or GED recommended.
- Basic cardiac life support required.
- Prior Healthcare experience is not required.
