This position supports the surgical service lines and perioperative areas across Corewell Health. Responsibilities include developing clinical guidelines and protocols, providing education to team members and learners, and delivering direct patient care. The role also includes staffing and leading the OR Pharmacy Satellite at Farmington Hills while fostering strong collaborative relationships with the broader surgical services team.
Corewell Health Farmington Hills Hospital opened on Jan. 19, 1965 as a 200-bed facility known then as Botsford General Hospital. Today, Corewell Health Farmington Hills Hospital is a 305-bed teaching facility with Level II trauma status.
This position is responsible for the leadership and staffing of the Farmington Hills OR Satellite Pharmacy. Key responsibilities include providing medication education and in-service training to the surgery and anesthesia teams, optimizing Omnicell operations, developing and implementing drug shortage mitigation plans, verifying medication orders for surgical and endoscopy patients, conducting medication and controlled substance audits, and monitoring adherence to surgical prophylaxis guidelines with appropriate clinical interventions.
Additionally, this role supports surgical services across Corewell Health and serves as the clinical pharmacy content expert for colorectal surgery and surgical medication management. The position maintains active involvement in Surgical Site Infection Committees, participates as a member of the Surgical Services P&T Subcommittee, and contributes to formulary management, medication optimization, and sustainability initiatives across surgical service lines throughout the health system.
Provides leadership for all Pharmacy clinical activities within assigned area. Embraces the goals/objectives encompassing Pharmaceutical activities. Promotes team efforts with pharmacy and non-pharmacy personnel to manage and achieve departmental/corporate objectives. Provides support for staff development so that staff meets/exceeds minimum competency standards and encourages/supports staff to continue professional development. Demonstrates good judgment and decisiveness throughout daily activities. Maintains knowledge of current pharmaceutical practice and demonstrates a personal commitment to professional growth.
Serves as role model of clinical excellence to staff pharmacists. Supports management by providing oversight, guidance and support for all assigned areas. Participates in the planning, organization, implementation and follow up of new programs and activities. A key role of the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist is to promote safe, appropriate, and cost effective medication therapy.
- Required Bachelor's Degree Pharm.
D. or Bachelor degree in pharmacy. - Preferred residency training.
- 3 years of relevant experience 3 years of experience as a clinical pharmacist or pharmacy residency/fellowship preferred. In absence of residency training, candidates with demonstrated superior knowledge (board certification, considerable practical clinical experience, etc.) in area of focus may be considered. Preferred
