Activity Associate, Part-Time Days 10:30a-7p, Bronson Commons, Mattawan
Under the direction of an Activities Director Certified, and in accordance with defined policies and procedures of Bronson and under the direction of a licensed nurse the activity associate assists in maintaining an activity and social program by using creative arts, manual crafts, recreational exercise and meaningful educational opportunities. The activity associate may be called upon to assist with patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) and patient transport.
Volunteers are used in conjunction with activities associates and are directed and assisted by the associate staff. Basic customer services directions, visitor control, and other functions as needed. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and successful completion of an accredited program for Nurse Aide Training required
Experience in Long Term Care, Rehab, or general Geriatrics preferred
Current CNA license (must be in good standing and valid in the state of Michigan)
Completion of Nurse Aide Testing within 4 months of hire
• Basic medical terminology knowledge
• Skill and proficiency in oral and written grammar, communication and basic mathematics
• Basic computer skills required
• Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems and equipment
• Basic typing skills
• Skills or experience in a combination of creative arts, music, or recreational activities is preferred
• Ability to recognize and provide patient assistance based on individual needs
• Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and through writing with residents, families, visitors and all members of the healthcare team
• Must be able to comfortably accept delegation and negotiate task priorities and demonstrate positive customer service skills
Work which rarely produces a high level of mental/visual fatigue, i.e., less than 20 percent of the work time. Involves considerable standing or walking, regular lifting of light-weight objects (i.e., 20 pounds or less) and assisting with heavier tasks such as assisting in lifting and moving patients. Minor straining or fatiguing positions must be assumed, and some fatiguing physical motions are required.
• Provides information, direction, and assistance as appropriate to individuals entering the building.
• Answers call lights, bells, or paging system to determine residents' needs.
• Utilizes documentation systems to enter patient data.
• Maintains a clean and orderly environment, ensuring patient safety and comfort at all times
• Accurately and timely documents patient activity participation records
• Assist and/or direct daily group projects or activities
• Train, direct and assist volunteers
• Provide one to one programming and visitation for cognitively impaired patients and document approach and responses
• Initiate and organize new activity programming
• Assist with patient ADLs including feeding, toileting, grooming, transferring and transporting
• Assumes responsibility for own growth and development.
