Full Time (40 hours/week). Hours may be adjusted in response to workload demands. Low census may be utilized in accordance with hospital policy.

Job summary:

Accepts responsibility for assigned insurance group or sector. Reviews patient account files to ensure accuracy and completeness, facilities claims with multiple insurance companies; review, research and follow up on rejected claims for payment; determines appropriate billing of claims, monitors outstanding accounts and completes related forms, prepares refunds for overpaid accounts, receives and answers billing-related inquiries from patients and/or customers, and assists in the preparation of billing reports.

Supports and adheres to the HIPAA Privacy Rules and Code of Ethics and Business Standards of McKenzie Health System. Performs other related duties as necessary

Qualifications/Position Requirements:

• High school Diploma or equivalent, required.
• Previous experience with medical billing/insurance processing preferred.
• Procedure and diagnostic coding experience preferred.
• Medical terminology course preferred.
• Certification in Billing/Coding required within 6 months of employment.
• Able to comprehend verbal and written instructions and procedures.
• Knowledge of/or ability to learn to use various office equipment including computer, internet, printers, software systems, and multi-line phone system.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations including co-pays, spend downs and percentages.
• Ability to maintain concentration despite interruptions;
  Capable of functioning under stressful situations.
• Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills in dealing with customers and hospital personnel.
