PEER RECOVERY COACH
- POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Peer Recovery Coach will be responsible for providing services and supports that promote recovery through mentoring and role modeling with persons served. As a person in recovery from substance use disorder(s) and/or co-occurring disorders and utilizing their own unique recovery story, the Peer Recovery Coach will provide support, mentoring, advocacy and role modeling to promote recovery methods within the Cass County community.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES Participate and advocate for appropriate services and supports for persons served, via the PCP process, which promote wellness, recovery and self-help strategies.

Mentoring, support, and role modeling of activities which promote wellness and recovery, relapse prevention and community integration.

Work with agency staff to develop and implement local ROSC plan.

Provide active supervision of persons served to ensure appropriate treatment/safety needs, as per PCP specifications.

Maintains working knowledge of trends in the substance use disorder and /or co-occurring treatment field through participation in recovery-based trainings, conferences, readings, and committee/council meetings, both on a local, affiliate, state or national level.

Completes required documentation within specified time frames.

Notifies clinical staff of any clinical concerns or emergent situation regarding assigned consumers, as needed.

Attends and participates in 100% of in-service training to maintain and improve job skills, obtain training in Evidence Based Practices, including all agency-required in-service training and as required for certification(s).Will participate in at least 90% of scheduled supervision sessions with immediate supervisor.

Adheres to all policies and procedures of MDHHS, SWMBH, CMH, CARF, Medicaid and other regulating bodies as designated.

Maintains strict confidentiality and advocates for the rights of persons served.

Presents to work at designated time.

QUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High School diploma or equivalent

Valid driver’s license with a good driving record and access to reliable transportation during working hours

Lived experience as a person in recovery PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Some college coursework preferred but not requiredCPRM Certification and/or State Certification preferred (must be obtained within one year of employment)
Any combination of education, training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job will be considered.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES Presents a welcoming manner to all customers and demonstrates engagement with individuals served, which adheres to the fidelity of a recovery model.

Lived experiences with diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds, including experience with behavioral health issues is preferred. Must be supportive of culturally competent recovery-based practices and person-centered planning as a shared decision-making process. Must support a trauma informed culture of safety to aid consumers in their recovery process.

Knowledge of basic communication and empathic listening skills

Knowledge of basic crisis intervention skills

Excellent time management, personal organization, and decision-making skills

Ability to work with other staff in a team concept

Ability to accept supervision and complete assignments and duties accurately and in a timely manner.
