Overview

We are seeking a Senior HR Generalist to join the EPIC Fitness Group team. This is a highly visible, hands-on role that will serve as the primary contact for employee relations matters, leaves of absence, unemployment and workers’ compensation, while supporting a wide range of additional HR functions.

Epic Fitness Group operates 69 Planet Fitness franchise locations in Michigan, Northern Ohio and Illinois. As a member of the corporate staff, you will experience a very collaborative environment, working in our Northville office, at least 3 days per week, with our hybrid work schedule. Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions
  • Employee Relations
    • Serve as the trusted advisor and primary point of contact for General Managers and Regional Managers on employee relations matters and investigations
    • Respond to employees who utilize the Open Door Policy in a timely and effective manner, in compliance with all applicable laws and company policy
    • Identify trends and patterns that signal opportunities for training or process improvement across field operations
  • Leaves of Absence
    • Manage all leave programs including FMLA, ADA, Paid Parental Leave, workers’ compensation, and military leave
    • Serve as the primary contact for employees and managers throughout the entire leave process, from request through return to work
    • Manage leaves within the HRIS and ensure ongoing communication with payroll and field leadership
  • Unemployment and Workers’ Compensation
    • Process unemployment claims accurately and within required timelines
    • Represent the company in hearings and appeals as needed
    • File workers’ compensation claims, respond to vendor inquiries, and track treatment progress
  • Compliance and Reporting
    • Responsible for annual OSHA and EEOC reporting
    • Handle Pre-Adverse and Post-Adverse action Background Check notices and manage related communications
    • Stay current on federal, state, and local employment law changes and advise management accordingly
    • Ensure proper recording, approval, and filing of all HR documents in accordance with established guidelines
    • Maintain strict confidentiality of all employee records, medical information, and sensitive HR matters
  • General HR Support
    • Serve as backup to the HR Coordinator for background checks, requisitions, and onboarding
    • Manage the performance review process in the HRIS and follow up on completion
    • Prepare HR reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and presenting findings to leadership
    • Perform HR data entry and maintain accurate records within the HRIS
    • Support special projects and other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • 7 or more years of HR Generalist experience, including hands-on administration of leaves of absence
  • Extensive knowledge of employment laws including FMLA, ADA, FLSA, OSHA, and EEOC requirements
  • Proven ability to manage employee relations matters and investigations with professionalism and confidence
  • Experience processing unemployment and workers’ compensation claims
  • Proficiency with HRIS platforms and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to present data clearly to leadership
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting to small and large groups
  • Demonstrated discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in HR or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • PHR, SPHR, or SHRM-CP/SCP certification preferred
