HR Partner – Employee Relations and Compliance About this position
We are located in Bloomfield Hills, MI. This position is exempt, full time and hybrid, with a combination of work done at the system office, remote, and field. The position pays $56‑59K annually. Hours are in office/field (Mon‑Thu, 9‑5p.m.) and remote (Fri, 9‑5p.m.). This position reports to the Head of Human Resources/HR Director.
Position PurposeThe Human Resources Employee Relations and Compliance Partner serves as the organization’s trusted advisor for workplace relations, compliance, and leadership development. This role partners directly with leadership to build high-performing teams while ensuring employment practices align with legal, ethical, and organizational standards. It balances employee advocacy with organizational risk management by coaching leaders, resolving workplace concerns, conducting investigations, and strengthening organizational culture.
Responsibilities- Conduct workplace investigations.
- Support disciplinary actions and performance improvement plans.
- Coach leaders through performance management.
- Resolve employee concerns.
- Train managers on communication, documentation, coaching and accountability.
- Improve leadership consistency across departments.
- Maintain compliance with federal and state employment laws.
- Support licensing and regulatory readiness.
- Conduct HR compliance audits.
- Coordinate FMLA, ADA-AA, Workers Compensation, restrictions and return-to-work processes.
- Partner with department leaders on complex employee situations.
- Policy review and recommendation.
- Identify workplace trends.
- Promote respectful workforce practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 3‑5 years of progressive Human Resources experience, including employee relations, performance management, and policy interpretation.
- Experience advising supervisors and managers on employee performance, coaching, and workplace issues.
- Experience conducting or supporting employee investigations and documenting findings.
- Knowledge of federal and state employment laws, including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, and workplace investigations, as well as experience administering leave/ADA programs.
- Proficiency with HRIS systems (Paycom preferred) and Microsoft Office suite.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to manage confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
