IT Business Analyst, Data Analyst
Summary
Michigan Tech IT develops and supports technology solutions that enable Michigan Tech's faculty, students, and staff to excel in teaching, learning, research, scholarship, and public service.
As a member of Information Technology, this position will assume a meaningful role implementing data governance initiatives, supervising a team of Business System Analysts while providing operational support for the core administrative systems.
- Supervisory responsibilities for a team of Business System and Intelligence Analysts.
- Chair the Data Stewardship Council and support the institution's pursuit of data governance.
- Create and execute queries, reports, and data visualizations using campus software reporting tools (WebFOCUS, SQL, etc.).
- Generate bulk email communications and process bulk data loads.
- Assist in application configuration/setup as new software is selected.
- Develop guidelines, test plans, training and documentation for supported software and associated business processes.
- Review questions/issues with supported software, determine operational effectiveness, and follow‑up with vendors and campus partners.
- Assist in testing new releases and provide periodic support outside of regular business hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Process access requests for core administrative systems.
- Work independently and as part of a team, fulfilling other duties as assigned.
- Commit to learning about continuous‑improvement strategies and participate in university continuous‑improvement initiatives.
- Apply safety‑related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
Required Experience- Minimum 4 years' professional experience in an administrative application support role as a business systems analyst or equivalent responsibilities.
- Professional experience writing SQL.
- Relevant experience writing reports.
Education and/or Experience
- Experience supporting an ERP system.
- Experience working in higher education.
- Experience with Data Governance.
- Experience supervising people.
- Excellent interpersonal skills related to complex IT topics.
- Ability to effectively communicate with technical and non‑technical audiences at all levels through written and verbal communication with attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff.
- Demonstrated commitment to contribute to a safe work environment.
- Strong problem‑solving skills.
- Demonstrated success in, or potential future contributions to, working with persons from a wide variety of backgrounds and viewpoints.
Every employee at Michigan Technological University will receive the following four required trainings; additional training may be required by the department.

Additional training will be required by the department on a periodic basis.
Background Check:
Offers of employment are contingent upon and not considered finalized until the required background check has been performed and the results received and assessed.
The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $85,000. The final salary will depend on experience and qualifications.
